Peasant struggle in Guatemala

Five hundred years fighting for land, dignity and existence.

The Polochic Valley, in the deepest Guatemala, condenses a series of climatic, geographical and political microcosms that summarize most of the

country’ s history.

The property and the use of the land, isolated physically from the rest of the territory, watered by dozens of tributaries of the river with the same name, Polochic, and in  permanent bloom due to the dampness, the heat and the rains that  hills retain on its immense estates, have turned it into the center of the agrarian conflict in Guatemala.

The peasants fight to keep the land as the only source of life, meanwhile big agrarian companies try to crop just cane sugar and corn for the biofuel production and push them out of their lands using violence and fear.
